"Despite being made of heavy stone and lacking any added decoration, the inside of the church was surprisingly light. Long windows had been made into the sides of the place and unadorned by any stained glass, stood open to the outside air. An old woman finished sweeping out the back of the foyer; they lifted their feet to let her broom pass. In a round window over the altar, an orb spider spun a web. One circle. Two circles. The morning had begun so early; they began to drowse into each other in the cool mist. Three circles. The dawn light began to lose its pinkish hue. Four circles. Rude shifted around a cramp in his back. Five. The sound of the old woman washing down the church steps. Six…

…The past had been their vow, things spoken in the air between them. They looked up suddenly, seeing an accidental road trip to Junon. Another, not so accidental, out of Rocket Town. Miles and years of uncertainty, doubt, and longing. Waking from nightmares, waking in passion. Laughing. Crying. A dozen missions when they had clicked together as a flawless team. Nights looking up at the stars. Sarcasm and wine. Yes, they had said so much to each other, for so long.

Once in a while, rarely, they had even used words."
